Will The ‘Inhumans’ Movie Cross Over With ‘Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.’?
Although theInhumansmovie isn’t due in theaters for another three and a half years, Marvel seemed to belaying some early groundworkwithAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D.The Inhumans were introduced on the show at the end of last season and have continued to play a major part in the show this season. But accordingClark Gregg, that doesn’t necessarily mean we can expect a crossover betweenAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D.and theInhumansmovie.
Gregg shared his thoughts on a potential SHIELD Inhumans crossover withDigital Spy:
TheInhumansmovie I suspect will be its own cinematic version. That writer and director will have free reign to do what they want to do with the Inhumans. But hopefully there’ll be some way that our Inhumans connect to that. It’d be too bad if that was wasted.
We’d definitely advise taking this one with a grain of salt. All Gregg’s quote really tells us that he, personally, does not know of any crossover plans in the works at the moment. (And maybe not even that, since Marvel’s stars are well trained in the art of keeping secrets from the press.) So it’s possible that Marvel does want a crossover, but just hasn’t gotten around to informing Gregg yet. Regardless of what Marvel’s thinking right now, a lot can change between now and 2019, even in a franchise asmeticulously mapped outas the MCU.
But it’s also worth noting that Marvel’s TV and movie divisions are, well, a little more divided now than they used to be. Over the summer, Marvel Studios underwent somemajor corporate restructuringthat ended withKevin Feigein charge of Marvel’s films, and reporting to Disney’s Alan Horn, while Feige’s old bossIke Perlmutterremained in control of Marvel’s TV shows. Even if the original plan was forAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D.to set upInhumans, that may not be the case anymore.
And that might not be such a bad thing. As Gregg points out,S.H.I.E.L.D.can and should be able to stand on its own.
What’s kind of necessary for the show to work is that it is its own thing and it’s not dependent upon those crossovers. They’re just fun stuff that happens once in a while. They destroy the organization our show is named after and we have to deal with that! I’ll be interested to see how it evolves, that crossover stuff.
We’d be interested to see how it evolves, too. As of now,Inhumansis perhaps the most mysterious of the Phase Three films, mostly because it’s the last one. It’s slated to land in theatersJuly 12, 2019, which is far enough away that it doesn’t have a director, writer, or cast yet (althoughVin Dieselis certainly trying his hardest tokeep the rumor mill churning). There were somerecent rumorsthat theInhumansmovie could get cancelled completely, but so far we’ve seen no confirmation of that.
